John Vurro
Our last poet for the year!
Dear Readers,
We’ve finally reached the end of all our scheduled posts since we stopped receiving submissions in June. Thank you to everyone for contributing and reading so far. Today’s poet is John Vurro. We enjoyed the harrowing tones of his poems and his innovative use of space between words.
John Vurro’s novel Play, Rewind was published April of 2025 from Tortoise Books. It was shortlisted for the Masters Review Novel Excerpt Contest, and was also a finalist in Craft’s First Chapter Contest. His story, “Turnkey,” was chosen for Carve‘s One to Watch feature in their 2015 summer issue. His story, “Carmine’s War,” won Harpur Palate‘s 2013 John Gardner Award. His fiction has been published in The Literary Review, Eclipse, Glint, and elsewhere. His poems have been published in The Examined Life, Sugar House Review, Action, Spectacle and elsewhere. His essay “Guardians’‘ was published in The Sun and nominated for a Pushcart Prize. He lives in New Jersey.
General submissions and themed submissions are still closed for now.
If you’d like to support the magazine and make a donation, please click the link on the word “donation” and it’ll take you to Amanda’s (founder of Arrhythmia) PayPal link. That’s the only viable way of receiving donations for the magazine as of now.
If you would like to show your appreciation for anybody whose work has appeared in Arrhythmia, send us an email with your message inquiry, and we can take care of sending them your token of appreciation, whether that’s a personal note of encouragement or monetary support.
Again, we want to thank each one of you for your contributions and attention. It hasn’t been the easiest road to start a literary magazine in April, but we hope the pieces we’ve published have continued to reflect a different heartbeat encompassing Arrhythmia Magazine.
This means that we will stop posting for the rest of the year. But we may open submissions again in 2026, so keep an eye out for that!
Thank you, and see you all again!
